Joseph’s Dreams

Man and Child FishingGenesis 37 v 1 – 11

Lesson Aim

To understand that God knows the future.

Hook 1: Robe

From a charity shop purchase the most colourful robe / dressing gown / shirt which you can acquire.  Remember that children will not come to the story with preconceived ideas about how the robe should look.

Hook 2: Hunt the picture game

Hide pictures around the room of a colourful robe, a sun, a moon, stars and sheaves of corn. Ask two or three children to find the particular pictures at the correct point in the story.

Hook 3: Dreams

Tell the children to lie on the floor and go to sleep. Then describe the first dream to the children.

After explaining the meaning of the dream have the children lie down again so that you can describe the second dream.

Hook 4: Questions

Have you ever had a really strange dream? Sometimes our dreams don’t make any sense to us. Listen for the dreams in today’s story.

Story Tips

If you use hooks 1 and 3 you could have Joseph (a young child) dressed up in his robe in the centre of a circle with all of the other children bowing down to him.

Application

Explain that God and only God knows what will happen in the future. He also can guide events.
