The Potter’s House

Man and Child FishingJeremiah 18 v 1 – 10

Lesson Aim

To understand that God forms us like a potter forms a pot.

Hook 1: Clay

Use clay, modelling clay or Play-Doh to shape a pot

As you tell the story explain that a small stone in the pot makes it useless. In the same way sin in our lives makes us useless to God. Sin in our lives must be removed through the forgiveness offered through a belief in Jesus as our saviour.

Hook 2: Questions

Have you ever done pottery at school? You might have made something out of clay? Today’s Bible story is about a real potter whose job was to make pots.

Story Tips

If possible allow all of the children the opportunity to shape a pot. Alternatively, you could make a pot in front of the children.

It is possible to purchase ‘air hardening clay’ which dries and doesn’t need to be fired in a kiln from any good art shop.

Application

The potter chose to make a pot in his way and in his style. In the same way God  has made us just like the potter made the pot.
