Valley of Dry Bones

Man and Child FishingEzekiel 37 v 1 – 14

Lesson Aim

To understand that God gives and takes life.

Hook 1: Bones

Buy 2 or 3 large bones (obtained from any butcher) or a skeleton (borrowed from any secondary school science dept.)

Explain Ezekiel’s dream and pretend to join the bones together.

Hook 2:  Goldfish

Ask  the children what makes the goldfish alive. If it died just now how would the goldfish have changed?

Hook 3:  A kidney donor card (or other donor cards)

Describe the dream, then show the donor cards. Explain how doctors could have a kidney, bones, blood, a heart and all of the other body organs but they could not create a human being. Even if they could put all of the parts together it is God and only God who gives life.

Hook 4: Questions

Who knows what a skeleton is?

Who knows how many bones an adult human being has? 50, 100, 150 or over 200?

The answer is 206

Our Bible story today is all about bones.

Application

Plants, animals and people are alive because God gives life. When God takes life away things die.

Language

For ‘vision’ say that God gave him a special dream or picture.
